Welcome! Pjila’si.

This site is an initiative started by the students in NURS 4701: Indigenous Perspectives of Health and Healing at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada to share our learning. Our course examines understandings of health from a variety of Indigenous perspectives, with a specific focus on the Mi’kmaq of Cape Breton, in order to increase awareness of how different Indigenous cultures understand and conceptualize health and well-being to enhance health provision and professional health practice.

We are learning from a wide variety of knowledge holders, Elders, and health professionals,  and we want to share our learning with you!

Please check back regularly, as we will be posting blogs, videos, pictures, and podcasts around various topics about integrating Indigenous and Western sciences, ways of knowing, and understandings to support and enhance health.
